About Dr. Yoder-Himes
Hi everyone. I got my Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a Microbiology and Genetics foci from Purdue University. This is where I started my love of all things bacteria and I did my undergraduate thesis with Dr. Mark Levinthal on the transcriptional regulation of methionine biosynthesis in E. coli.
I went on to get my Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University (MSU) in the lab of Dr. Lee Kroos where I studying the transcriptional regulation of developmental genes in a super cool microbe, Myxococcus xanthus.
I did my first post-doc (a research stint) at the Center for Microbial Ecology at MSU with Dr. James Tiedje where I did projects on the Burkholderia cepacia complex and pathogenic E. coli. This resulted in the first publication of RNA-seq in bacteria.
From there, I did another post-doc at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in the labs of Dr. Steve Lory and Dr. Craig Gerard. Here I became interested in pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staph aureus. I also expanded my skills here to include more next-gen sequencing and tissue culture work.
I came to the Department of Biology at the University of Louisville in 2013 and have been here ever since. Currently, I am an Associate Profession in Biology and the Assistant Chair for our department too. I run a research lab and teach Microbiology for upper division Biology majors.
